O'Connors advises MAPD Group on Bromleys acquisition
Law firm, Bromleys, which has been trading for more than 180 years, has been acquired by MAPD Group. Located in Ashton-under-Lyne with a 58-strong team serving commercial and individual clients across Tameside and Manchester, Bromleys has one of the largest childcare teams in Greater Manchester and is well-known for its Court of Protection work.
MAPD Group (which stands for Making A Positive Difference) is backed by Shard Capital Partners and was established in 2019 to power the growth of local law firms nationally through acquisition.
Bromleys, which is now to be led by managing partner Paul Westwell, will maintain its name and brand, with the ownership being transferred to MAPD but with Westwell retaining an interest.
MAPD Group owners Brian Cullen and Joanna Kingston-Davies – CEO and COO respectively – are committed to investing in local law firms and helping them to grow.
The acquisition was funded by Shard Credit Partners. MAPD Group were advised by James Curtis and Connor Monaghan of DSW and by Natasha Lackner and Mollie Williams of sector specialist law firm O'Connors. Financial and tax due diligence was carried out by Andrew Cameron, Grahame Maughan and Jonathan Delaney of RG Corporate Finance.
Bromleys joins the Liverpool-based Jackson Lees Group (Jackson Lees and Broudie Jackson Canter), Stoke-based Myers & Co and Manchester and Liverpool-based commercial law firm Bermans in the MAPD portfolio.
